1.0-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor

To deliver images that are unattainable with compact cameras, the Z200 is equipped with a large 1.0-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor with approximately 14.0 effective megapixels. Its unique structure – with a layer of back-illuminated pixels over integrated signal-processing circuits – enables faster data readout and increases the amount of light reaching the sensor for improved low-light performance.

BIONZ XR image processing engine

Our latest BIONZ XR image processing engine, integrated with the image sensor, delivers faster frame rates, faster AF performance, improved auto tracking white balance (ATW), and improved noise reduction. It maximizes the performance of the high-resolution image sensor to capture the finest details and subtle textures. 5K oversampling with full pixel readout transforms a large amount of image data into stunning 4K (3840 x 2160) 60p movies.

More accurate white balance

The development of the BIONZ XR engine and advances in AI have resulted in improvements to the Z200's auto tracking white balance (ATW). The built-in AI processor improves ATW accuracy even in difficult lighting conditions, such as when shooting a person in the shadows.

Next-generation AF system with advanced AI processor

The dedicated AI processor works with the BIONZ XR processor to accurately recognize people in the frame using deep learning of human shapes and postures. Fast Hybrid AF covers 81% of the image, providing better subject recognition and real-time tracking. The Z200 efficiently tracks and keeps subjects in focus in almost the entire frame.

Auto Framing*

When Auto Framing is turned on, the camera tracks a recognized person and adjusts the framing so that they always occupy a prominent position in the frame. The resulting footage can look as if it was shot by a cameraman recomposing, when in reality the camera was stationary. This allows single cameramen to focus on their subjects without having to constantly check the camera position.

* The 4K image is cropped, reducing the angle of view.

Stunning slow-motion footage with 4K 120fps recording*

The high readout speed of the Exmor RS sensor enables high frame rate (HFR) footage: up to 120fps in 4K and 240fps in Full HD. This allows you to create 4K 30p 4x slow-motion footage or 4K 24p 5x slow-motion footage. Whatever your creative choice, fast AF helps keep your subject in focus. Or, you can use Slow & Quick Motion**, supporting recording at up to 4K 120 fps and Full HD 240 fps.

* With approx. 23% crop. 100/200 fps in PAL mode. Refer to the user manual for minimum memory card requirements for proper operation.

** Audio cannot be recorded in Slow & Quick Motion mode.

20x optical zoom

A single advanced G Lens™ with 20x power zoom is perfect for everything from a wide-angle interview in your car to a close-up sports shot. The optical zoom range is 24–480 mm (full-frame equivalent). If needed, you can also use Sony Clear Image Zoom, which increases the maximum zoom to 30x for 4K recording and 40x in Full HD. Zooming is fast, smooth and quiet, and the maximum aperture changes from F2.8 (wide) to F4.5 (zoom).

Advanced image stabilization

Built-in image stabilization reduces the effects of camera shake. Active Mode*, which combines optical stabilization with electronic stabilization, makes handheld shots smooth and stable.

* In Active Mode, the image is slightly cropped. Active Mode does not work when recording at 120 (100) fps or higher. This also applies to the S&Q function.

Built-in electronic variable ND filter

The continuously adjustable variable ND filter allows you to adapt to different light levels. You can set values from 1/4ND to 1/128ND using the dial, or use the Auto ND function, which will take care of the optimal exposure. This is especially useful when you quickly leave the building for the outdoors or vice versa.

Precise LCD monitor and OLED viewfinder

The new 3.5-inch LCD monitor with a resolution of approximately 27.6 million pixels stands out for its brightness and clarity. It allows you to conveniently view and focus on objects. The monitor can be tilted up, down and back, making it easier to choose a convenient perspective. The kit includes an LCD screen protector that slides into the grooves at the top and bottom of the monitor. It does not interfere with folding the monitor.

You can also view a clear, high-contrast image through the 0.39″ OLED viewfinder that cuts out external light and has a resolution of approximately 23.6 million pixels.

AUTO/MANUAL switch

If shooting conditions unexpectedly throw you off track, you can enable automatic adjustment of settings and maintain ideal brightness and white balance with the flip of a single switch. When set to AUTO, the camera automatically adjusts the ND filter, iris, gain, shutter speed and white balance.

Multiple basic looks – film and TV

Easily give your footage the look of a professional TV or film production. Use pre-programmed S-Cinetone, ITU709, 709tone, HLG Live, HLG Mild or HLG Natural settings, then adjust black and other parameters accordingly.
